2003-2006

Our 12th Annual Conference on April 10-12, 2003, was held at the Inter-Continental Hotel in New Orleans and was a great success, with superb educational programs, excellent networking, entertaining social events, and the finest hospitality from our New Orleans welcoming committee that we have experienced in many years.

During the business session of the conference, the Membership voted to elect Bruce P. Cohen to the position of Vice Chairman of the Association for the coming year and Richard Levy passed the Chairmanship to Bryce Shirley.

During the year, our Lease Negotiation Handbook was printed to rave reviews.

A "retired" category of membership was added to the association. An outstanding Fall Forum 2003 was held at the Allerton Crowne Plaza, Chicago on November 7th and we held our 13th Annual Conference at Renaissance Esmeralda Resort and Spa, April 22-24, 2004 on "The Hottest Topics in Real Estate." A beautiful updated website was launched and newsletters went online. Bryce Shirley passed the gavel to Bruce Cohen and Michael Pollack was elected to the position of Vice Chairman.

A Lease Negotiation Handbook launch party was hosted by the Mid-Day Club in Chicago along with the LaSalle Street Council and the Chicago Chapter of CoreNet Global and spearheaded by Bernard Edelman. That event, a cocktail party, was held on May 5, 2004.

In addition to the online Membership Directory we began to offer the membership list in the password section of the website as a document refreshed every two months.

The Fall Forum 2004 was held on November 5th again at the Allerton Crowne Plaza Hotel, Chicago. A fishbowl networking luncheon with Keynote Speaker was a fun event this year. The 14th Annual Conference (April 14-16, 2005) was held at the Inter-Continental Hotel in Miami, Florida. At this conference, Bruce Cohen's year as Chairman ended and Michael Pollack took over the helm. Elected to the position of Vice Chairman was Phil Engle.

Immediately following the conference, a joint course with The Real Estate Center at DePaul University and the Center for Real Estate at The John Marshall Law School, entitled Leasing Techniques for Commercial Real Estate, was held at DePaul University. Our director, Ron Pollina, designed and implemented this course, held April 28-29, 2005. Our Lease Negotiation Handbook was used as the textbook.

During the following year, we held a successful Fall Forum, again in Chicago, and formed an alliance with the National Retail Tenants Association (NRTA). We revamped our dues structure allowing multiple members of organizations to join at a reduced rate provided they have one member at the regular rate. We also reduced dues for members from academic and NFP organizations.

We had a wonderful meeting in Santa Fe, New Mexico, our 15th Annual Conference, April 27-29, 2006. We also approved the concept of Regional programs to be designed for the benefit of particular regions of the country and hosted and organized by members in those regions. At the conference, Michael Pollack passed leadership of the organization to Phil Engle and Edward Chupack was elected as Vice Chairman.

In the fall of 2006, two regional programs were held-great models for upcoming events. The first, entitled "Peotone Airport: Where We've Been and Where We're Going!" and "Environmental Risk and Eminent Domain-Minimizing Real Estate Risks" was held in Chicago on September 20th and the second, held in San Francisco's Ferry Building on September 22nd had a full day program with 3 panel presentations and a keynote speaker. Dedicated member committees developed both programs.

The Fall Forum in Chicago (November 4, 2006) moved to a new type of venue by utilizing the DePaul Center and their great conference space.
