1991-1994

The first Board of Directors consisted of three members-Founder and Executive VP, John H. Vogt; Treasurer, Lisa V. Carreras; and Secretary, Linda J. Denman. Numerous meetings took place throughout 1990 and the first half of 1991, to implement the structuring and operation of AECRE.

Official Bylaws of the Association were unanimously approved by the first Board on September 1, 1990. The first "elected" Board of Directors, consisting of eleven members (including three Executive Officers), was elected to office on July 1, 1991. These members served staggered terms of one, two and three years.

The initial meeting of the first elected Board of Directors of the Association was held on July 18, 1991. The Board elected Jack Brophy as the first Chairman of AECRE to serve for a one-year period-July 1, 1991 to July 1, 1992.

The Internal Revenue Service approved AECRE as a 501(C)6, not-for-profit Association, exempt from Federal Income taxes, on August 14, 1991.

In March 1992 AECRE published the first issue of Corporate Real Estate and the Law®. Shortly thereafter, the Editorial Committee took over responsibility for the newsletter.

The 1st Annual Conference of the Association was held on June 3-4, 1992 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Oak Brook, Illinois. Several changes to the Bylaws were adopted by the delegates, mainly affecting the composition of the Board. James S. Gray was elected to the position of Vice Chairman (automatically to advance to Chair the next year) and Jack L. Brophy was re-elected to serve as Chairman for one more year.

The Association\\\'s 2nd Annual Conference was held in Oak Brook at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on May 26-27, 1993. Several Bylaw changes were again approved to help provide continuity in the leadership of the Association in the early stages of its existence.

James S. Gray became Chairman of AECRE at the close of the 2nd Annual Conference on May 27, 1993 and Todd E. Kjar was elected to the position of Vice Chairman. The members voted to extend future annual conferences to Thursday and Friday with the option to hold a golf outing for 1/2 day on Saturday. Later during the year, the Program Committee for the Annual Conference elected to extend the educational sessions into Saturday morning.

A Job Referral program for members of the Association was also approved at the 2nd Annual Conference. Members interested in changing positions may submit resumes to the AECRE office where they are held in complete confidence pending review by prospective employers. Resumes of members desiring to change positions are not released to prospective employers without written consent.

The 3rd Annual Conference "A Look Ahead: Exploring Corporate Real Estate Legal Issues for 1994 and Beyond" was held at the Chicago Marriott Downtown on April 28-30, 1994. The move to a "Downtown" location was well received by the membership.

The Association now had 155 members with a membership profile of 1/3 in-house attorneys, 1/3 outside counsel, and 1/3 executives involved in corporate real estate. At the close of the 3rd Annual Conference Todd Kjar stepped up into the position of Chairman of AECRE and Ron Barger was elected as Vice Chairman for the upcoming year.
